am i?

I’ve been asked throughout my life how intelligent I am, specifically if I am a genius.

And I always answer, I don’t think so.

I’ve never openly shared my thoughts on my intelligence until this very moment – exactly right now.

I believe intelligence is relative and very subjective.

What is intelligent to one person might not be to another.

I’ve met many people who aren’t labelled intelligent who are quite intelligent, but couldn’t pass a test in school or graduate from a program.

I did manage to recover from a serious mental illness, so you may think I might be. However, many people I have met with a mental illness are quite intelligent.

I was able to complete 2, now almost 3 degrees.

Yes, I studied Buddhism on my spare time when I was younger, on my own, no one asking me to.

I did become a vegetarian at 17, but I don’t think that means anything.

I love math and science, but I think that was more my teachers pushing me into it.

I enjoy and embrace creativity, but I typically hide that. Unless you come to a museum with me, then you might see it.

I took courses to learn more before I became ill. That was pretty neat. I learned a lot about life, and it opened up my perspective. I still do that on my spare time. But skills and knowledge are not intelligence.

I’ve been asked to take the official IQ test many times.

I usually just say, what if the person who wrote the test isn’t as smart as I am, then how can they test my intelligence.

Also, being intelligent in some things, doesn’t mean you are intelligent in all things.

What I know though, is no matter what my level of intelligence is, I am no better than anyone else.

So, maybe that’s my answer. Does it really matter?

However, do you really want to know?

Because I don’t.

It’s also highly likely that it’s just for me to know.

  1. I agree, intelligence is subjective to a large degree and having it and applying it are different skills. So bottom line: does it matter is the right answer
